WTF : What The Fashion Series - Summer Swimsuits

Writer's picture: Warwick FashionWarwick Fashion

As summer draws finally to it's end Warwick Fashion Blogger Amy Philips takes us down memory lane by showcasing a few of the trends this summer that have made her say WTF...

With summer well and truly over, and the first spots of rain dropping on the piazza (sobbing into the distance) I thought it would be time to say WTF to some of summer’s, at least in my opinion, awful trends.

Summer is all about the s’s ; sun, sea and swimsuits (probably wasn’t the last one you were expecting I know). And swimsuits are definitely an area of fashion I find myself cringing at flicking through the magazines and on the beach alike. Long gone are the happy times of just a basic swimsuit or bikini cutting it in this ever fashion conscious society. Especially this summer, the trend of less is more may have been taken a step to far. And today I’m running through 3 of the worst offenders this summer.

High cut swimsuits

These swimsuits have really taken over this summer after starting to become a fashionable piece towards the end of last summer. This summer anyone who was anyone was seen rocking this skimpy look fuelled by the fever which was 2018 Love Island (Still not over how cute Jack and Dani are!)

These swimsuits to me seem to be just a little bit too risky for my liking. In just one stretch in the wrong way and the whole beach could be seeing something altogether rather unfortunate. Not the impression I want to be giving. Moreover, just from the way that the waist band sits I think it makes people’s hips look a little bit strange and reminds me of the knickers that Barbie’s used to wear. In my opinion, it really isn’t a cute look #sorrynotsorry.

Thong swimsuit

This is an area in swimsuits which I think is very divisive between people. Since the #bootyrevolution channelled by the bubble-butt craze, fashion has been designed more and more to show off your greatest asset. The thong bikini is a prime example of having pretty much all that god gave you on display.

Thongs can be a sexy addition to an outfit, but I think it is something which can be reserved to the comfort of an individual’s home. When I’m enjoying sipping my pina colada the last thing I really want to see is someone’s whole behind out. Also, I feel a little uncomfortable with that much being exposed when people are wearing this on their family holidays, how they look their parents in the eye I have NO idea.

Body print swimsuits

I’m not going to lie to you guys I’m really not sure where to start with this one, or where my criticisms end. I guess the one positive which can be brought from this situation is that everything below the belly button is gone, thank goodness for that - That is something no one needs to see. I feel like I’ve done enough damage by simply showing you this swimsuit and I really don’t think there needs to be any further explanation as to why it’s in this week’s top offenders.

I’m all about body empowerment and loving the skin you’re in, but having your clothes pattern with somebody else’s hasn’t really got the same vibe and I think maybe this will be marked as a great fashion mistake and we won’t see anything like this appearing again anytime soon.

I Just want to express these are my own views, based on my own styles and fashion preferences. I’m sure some of you guys will love these swimsuits and I embrace as much fashion diversity as possible. Fashion love x
