Exams...

Writer's picture: Warwick FashionWarwick Fashion

I never knew that this four-letter word could create so much fear and stress into so many hearts. It’s that time of year my fellow peers, where everyone is zooming around like headless chickens, the sweatpants come out and the coffee bingers raid our campus jewels - RIP Costa and Curiositea. If there’s one thing we’ve all done, its fallen into the trap of whipping on an unflattering oversized hoodie or plain pair of joggers and trudging away to the little box in the library. To the left and to the right all you see is people still in their PJs, their sunken faces buried in their textbooks and their fashion sense and beauty regime out the window. But let me tell you, there is an art to being fashionable and looking all-put-together in this crucial period so take a breather and unlock the secrets and benefits of looking and feeling amazing below.

First thing is DO freshen up

Yes, I do mean take a shower and wash the hair occasionally but I also mean make sure your wardrobe is still looking lively. Don’t completely swap out your denims for some baggy grey bland clothes. Still look the part and get yourself down to H&M or River Island (if you want to go a bit higher end) and get some clothes that will make you feel comfortable but also those that will help you feel good. Ladies this is called RETAIL THERAPY if you haven’t guessed by now. And I’m not saying go on a spree but pick a few items such as a t-shirt or a scarf or a velvet jumper to go for a cosy but casual look. This freebreezing of your wardrobe will no doubt leave you feeling fresh for exams and it also gives you a break from exam revision.

DO wear…

I would suggest going with calm colours such as a camel, creams, whites, greys and blacks. Pairing these colours together give a very soft studious look to your outfit. If you want to add some colour try and go with mustard yellows, burgundy and dark greens. Exam period is also a very good time for patterned looks such as stripes, checked, tartan or Houndstooth. They are good choices especially if you want to wear a dress, trouser or skirt. It helps you look like a boss but still trendy and not OTT professional.

If you want cosiness and comfortability for exam period go for a jumper. I would suggest ribbed jumpers or jumpers with flared sleeves if you want to keep up with latest trends. Combine your jumper with a pinafore to go for a cuter more youthful look and to stay away from falling into the old granny trap. If you do want to go for a less wintery look, I would suggest some boyfriend jeans or some paper bag trousers with a standard baggy slogan t-shirt to give a fun vibe to your day, pick one with a good quote or motto just so you can start the day right.

DON’T cling to the standard grey sweatpants and DO explore athleisure

We all want to be feel comfortable and relax, which is perfectly fine. I say, do use your joggers and baggy hoodies but in moderation as with anything in life. If you want comfort, head to Hollister who have a range of silky-smooth sweatpants in navy blue, black and various shades of grey. Leggings are also a good shout if you want to feel relaxed, I’d say Adidas and Gymshark are hitting up the athleisure game big time, especially with the latter and their ombre leggings. If you want something a bit less bank draining, head towards Boohoo for a range of cropped hoodies and trackies. Athleisure is a rising trend and I’d definitely go towards this if you really want to be comfortable in sweatpants but be fashionable. If you are in dire need of inspiration look towards Gigi, Kylie Jenner or RiRi.

Finally DO hydrate and DON’T forget

And please hydrate, yes bring on the 8 glasses of water but I’m also hinting at the need to hydrate the face with a cleanse and moisturiser in the morning. Give your face that glow and fresh feeling with any type of honey mask (7th heaven is a good one) and a thin layer of moisturiser to avoid any excess oil build up throughout the day. This number one step will certainly leave you ready in the morning. It doesn’t require much effort or time compared to the standard facial routine where you can get lost in your exfoliation and deep cleanse stages. But between all the stress spots and eye bags, your face needs this hydration. #forget-me-not

Well there you have it ladies, a quick few do’s and don’ts to a less stressful exam period in terms of fashion and beauty. The best thing is, you can mix and match the fashion advice given here and you’ll still look good, so if you want to match some trackies with a slogan tee (just like Riri has so gracefully done) go ahead! My best advice though is fake it until you make it and I hope your exams take a turn for the best! Good luck everyone!
