At a university, clubbing is something that the majority of people really enjoy. It’s a chance to let loose, relieve the stress and burdens of the course and responsibilities you have and just loose yourself with good music, close friends, and one or four shots of vodka (no judgements here). So when it comes time to venture out to the clubs, it’s important that you’re looking your best. People are going to be snap chatting and instagramming your time there, so you want to make sure you have a look that is presentable and attractive, whilst still allowing you to be comfortable and flexible for the dance floor. Here are some quick tips on how to dress for the Warwick clubbing scene.

Okay, so I’ve been known to personally put style before practicality at some cases, but when it comes to clubbing you’ve got to think about what you’re going to be doing. If you’re someone who likes going full out and energetic on the dance floor, you need to be wearing something that’s breathable and comfortable, so that you’re not getting too hot and sweaty (which is not an attractive look on anyone, trust me). So, if you are that sort of person, t-shirts are your best bet. My advice is not to go for a block colour as that can just look a bit bland and you’ll just blend in with everyone else. Go for a bit of brightness, a nice touch of flare, a cool pattern. If you get such a lighter t-shirt, you’ll be more visible on the dance floor, and people will be more likely to let their glances linger on you longer. Simply pair that with a pair of dark, comfortable jeans, and pair of trainers or converse that compliments the shade of the t-shirt you are wearing. For a top layer, go for a classic leather jacket, either in black or brown. A modern update on the classic James Dean look. Can’t go wrong with that.

If you’re someone who likes to be on the dance floor, but will occasionally want to sit out or just rest and stand at the side, you can take some more liberties with your outfits. Instead of a simple t-shirt, invest in a comfortable well fitted shirt that has a nice pattern, that you can keep long sleeved for either circling or preeing at home, and then when the dance floor is being hit, you can roll up your sleeves and it’ll have the same effect of breeziness as a t-shirt. Pick a shirt that’s a good cotton so it breathes nicely, and choose a bold pattern that can be seen from across the room easily. Blues, Taupe's, Pinks, and Whites are good choice, though if you go for a white, don’t just go for a white button up. You’ll look like you just stumbled in from a board meeting, or like you’re trying to look cooler than you’ll end up looking (side not, I’ve seen the common style of men wearing white shirts and a blue striped tie worn loosely. Can that just, stop. Please?). Try going for a shirt with a check pattern, some swirls or a subtle floral print, or with a bold stripe going down it. Remember, the main thing is that is should fit well and that you’re able to move in it with ease. Try also finding a shirt with a slightly more casual collar as well, such as a Cuban collar or a Grandad collar (don’t let the name fool you, it can look quite stylish).

Accessories are also going to help your look stand out and look a bit more refined, so use that for your advantage. When dancing, since it’s best to wear shirts that are short sleeved, or at least rolled up, in order to not restrict your movements. That means you have your whole forearm to play around with. I’d recommend getting a watch that is durable and has a hint of aesthetic with, in order to add that level of detail of a nice manly touch to your ensemble. Something with a leather strap, or a bright white clock face, there’s a variety of different options out there, so find one that works for you in a way that is versatile and that you enjoy looking at. Secondly, your belt. If you’re wearing some lighter clothes, particularly lighter jeans, a good way to boost your outfit is with a sharp brown belt. Either in a classic or woven style this a be good way to provide a sharp contrast your outfit, especially if you’re wearing brighter shades of colours like blue or pink.

A good idea is also to add a bit of colour to an item of clothing that you might previously have forgotten about. Your socks. If you’re wearing trousers that don’t quite go all the way to the top of your shoe, buy some cool looking socks that stand out against the shoes you’re wearing, in colours such as purple, red, green, and blue. Especially when contrasted against white converse and trainers, they can be a great way of adding a dash of colour to your ensemble.
A club scene can be a really fun way of spending a night. Dancing, singing along with the music, hanging out with friends. And a well-coordinated outfit can add that special extra element to the night. When the photos start popping up on line, when you’re bumping into random friends and getting complimented, when you’re being noticed by a certain someone on the dance floor, you’ll have the confidence to pull it off and the outfit to back it up.
