This weekly edition of ' Get the Trend' sees Warwick Blogger Niamh Smith explain to us why everyone goes wild for animal print and explains its current re-entrance into stores...
Ah animal print – somewhat the marmite of the fashion world. It makes its re-entrance back into our closets as bloggers and influencers are going wild yet again for the statement pieces which have made their way back into the shops. Animal print may seem like it’s only a trend for the adventurous; the bold print, bright colours and simply out there clothing pieces can seem like too much for the average fashionista. But this doesn’t have to be the case!

Animal print can totally be wearable, and is diverse in the way it can be worn. It can be included subtly as a simple crop top or denim skirt, or it can be a hugely central statement piece, such as a leopard print dress or zebra print coat. The choice really is yours.

But why does animal print consistently make a reappearance time after time? What is it about this frankly uncharacteristically loud print which makes us go wild for it? This can mostly likely be attributed to the statement effect it has; its certainly a look that packs a punch, meaning the accessories and accompanying outfit pieces are often minimal or low – effort. The print really does do all the talking.
Animal print can be seen to elevate the simplest of outfits and style up an outfit which may previously have looked bland or causal. It’s this factor which makes it a timeless classic; no wonder it’s made its way back into the shops!

The high street pieces are definitely a more wearable adaption of the trend however; the runway sees much more artistic and creative use of colour to fuse the trend with a bright look.
In A/W18 Tom Ford showcased an all red and black leopard print look, with matching heels and bag, creating a fierce fashion ensemble of colour and loud print. Tom Ford also demonstrated the trend could work in the most usual of colours with a blazer suit outfit in a bright lime green leopard print. I think the normal loud hues of animal print are loud enough so it might be a while before we see lime coloured prints being donned at Warwick Uni!

Therefore, whether you’re a fan of animal print or not, there is at least an appreciation there for a trend that doesn’t seem to be able to fade!
