As 90s fashion makes its revival, Warwick Fashion Blogger Lara Apstein investigates the good, the bad and the ugly of this comeback.
Have you ever walked down the street and saw someone wearing an AMAZING outfit, but having the feeling you’ve seen it before?
Well, you probably have...
The comeback of 90’s and early 2000’s fashion started a few years ago, and it doesn’t look like it's leaving us anytime soon. We all know that there is a ‘trend cycle’ and everything comes back at some point or another (*thanks mum for saving your Co-Ords from way back when*), yet lately, 90’s fashion has been all the rage.

Mom Jeans
Have you noticed girls wearing ill fitting, unflattering, high-wasted big jeans called “boyfriend jeans”? Well, thats just the return of the mom jean, which was super popular amongst mums in the 80’s and then everyone in the 90’s, and now, it's back *sigh*, and you can get them at your nearest Topshop.

The Crop Top
Furthermore, (just using my essay words here to sound smart, don’t mind me!) as you can see in the picture above, the CROP TOP has come back, and well, it's here to stay. (Personal Opinion: I don’t mind the rise of the crop top, it can make any outfit look good and it's easier to dress for a night out). BUT!, we may have taken the crop top too far, with the rise of the cropped hoodie, cropped dresses and even male crop tops from Asos (please don’t guys, just don’t, unless you are Zac Efron ofc ;)).

The Matrix Inspired Sunnies
Have you also been seeing these everywhere?...

Yes we know, they are back... even Kanye sent an email to Kim a while back telling her big sunnies were out of fashion, full stop. Do we like this trend? Depends on the sunnies... Does it help us cover our bags after a night out at smack for our early lecture the next day? Definitely not! So, we might be sticking to bigger sunglasses, sorry Kanye.
The Plaid Co-Ords
Finally, are you, like us, a fan of the amazing 90’s movie Clueless? Even if you aren’t, you know their fashion is Iconic (and you also know you’ve always wanted to say: BUT IT’S AN ALAIA!). Anyways, we’ve been seeing major clueless vibes lately everywhere, with the rise of the Plaid Co-ords, plaid pants, and hats everywhere!

Cher vibes much?
Honestly, we are here for it!! Plaid pants can make any outfit look more formal yet cool and they are the PERFECT piece to add to your closet this year. (TIP: Zara has the most amazing plaid pants and skirts 😍)
All in all, I am very much here for the revival of 90’s fashion with the modern twist... yet, I am extremely glad that one of the 90’s/2000’s trend is slowly coming to an end... it's chokers. Yes, you read that right. The choker trend is slowly coming to an end and we couldn’t be happier about it... but then again, all trends have cycles, and although we now love plaid, and chokers are leaving, plaid can leave soon too, and chokers may come back (let's just pray that doesn’t happen too soon).
